Word of the Day: Double Jeopardy

We hope everyone had a wonderful 4th of July weekend! Have you noticed the word Double Jeopardy in the news lately? Curious about its meaning? We're here to help!

-Double Jeopardy-

1) The subjecting of a person to a second trial or punishment for the same offense for which the person has already been tried or punished

2) The act of prosecuting a defendant a second time for an offence for which he or she has already been tried

3) Trying a person twice in the same jurisdiction for the same crime, a practice prohibited by the Fifth Amendment to the Constitution
